I'm back in school getting another degree after graduating over two decades ago. I'd never written a paper in APA format, I'd never heard of it and I'm not sure it even existed the last time I wrote a paper. Then I find myself being assigned to write TWO papers requiring use of APA format in my first semester after returning to school.The instructors provided a link to an APA site, but all that did for me was give me an idea of how much I'd have to learn! I ordered this book in somewhat of a panic. It turned out to be more geared to APA newbies like me, and also much more descriptive of how to do pretty much everything than the website was.I flipped back and forth through the book constantly (the advantage of print over a website) while typing. Got a 97 on one paper and a 98 on the other 😊 Thanks, Scott!
I have been using this book for several years as I plod through my Master's. Clear, everything works, and for people like me who just can NOT retain stuff that seems like it's irrelevant to my field of interest and could easily be handled by any competent editor if I ever do write something worth publishing, this gives me the tools to get my papers properly formatted and make my nitpicky rule following professors at least not downgrade me for picayune little stuff unworthy of my great and unique intellect.
Matkovich did a wonderful job compiling a good manual for students to refer to when writing an essay. However, he left out a major citation reference: motion pictures, videos, and the like.I appreciate him incorporating "social media" type references into his handbook, but using such a source in an essay at the higher education level is looked down upon by 99.99% of professors.Within that large percentage of professors, are the one's requiring you to use APA format. So I feel there really wasn't a point in wasting room in the handbook for something like this.He really explains how to utilize the heading of your essay which is very helpful. All in all, it's a good reference book with great examples to help you set up your citations.
This book has been a godsend of clarity and simplicity and a great support to my teaching about APA. It's easy for students to carry with them and inexpensive, which were two of my goals. I was poverty stricken in college and the handbook my department offers is $120! APA style can be confusing and using the recommended APA Handbook (6th ed.) can be frustrating. I was able to cite or reference my work with ease using this handbook. I think it is a "must have" for anyone conducting graduate research or coursework.
I tutor at the local college. APA is required of my nursing and social science majors. I am suggesting the purchase of this guide to all my students. I am also suggesting this guide to the college for their writing labs, as all tutors are not created equally.
Arrived new as pictured and described. Would order from in future. Book published in 2015, so only includes Word document set up to 2013 (not too many major changes that it would affect with newer versions, in my opinion). All in all a very good buy for students wanting to perfect their APA writing.
I'm an adult learner returning for new college course work with a decade since my last degree and I needed to brush up on APA. I use APA in my professional writing in the science field, but I have to admit I use a limited number of sources and sometimes I mixed up MLA & APA. After the first "warm-up" paper the professor tossed at us I knew scanning the Purdue cite and the others APA Help sites were not going to cut it for the level of excellence I wanted in my work. I read the reviews on this book and gave it a shot. The author gets his ideas across in a down to earth manner, not talking over or around the reader. It doesn't have an exhaustive reference and cite example section, so I did buy the APA manual along with this book... but trust me, APA Made Easy helps you knockout the proper form, were the Manual gives directions for literature majors and the field. For the price, this little book is well worth what I paid.
