For parents looking for an authentic Irish name, this book offers a lot of information, mostly historical, on the names that are included; however, the quantity of names included is limited (it's a pretty slim book compared to other baby-name books out there). For parents who want an Anglicized Irish name that will be possible for people outside of Ireland to pronounce, this is probably not the book for you. Also, the names are not separated by gender, so that's either a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it. If you know the gender of your baby and don't want to spend time reading names for the other gender, this may annoy you. But if you interested in reading the history about all the names in the book, regardless of gender, you might like this format. It would have been nice to have the pronunciation of each name next to the name itself rather than in the back of the book.

As a soon to be first time father with strong Irish roots, the choice of child's name has been a topic of heated discussion for some time. During our research we happened upon this book and it was a terrific find. In addition to containing the names you would expect, it contains a host of names I had never come across. The history of each name is an added delight. Simply browsing the pages of this publication gave me and my wife hours of enjoyment (even after we had agreed on our childs name!)

Nicely written and organized.

This is a very nice little book and covers many many Irish and Celtic names; many you have heard of and many you have not. It's a great resource if you're interested in an Irish name for your baby and at a good price. To me, it's one of the better books on the subject. There is lots of information on the names listed. I got it for a friend who is expecting her first child and wanted an Irish name, she really liked the book too. I consider it a good investment.

So if your children will be born Irish I would recommend this book. I've only heard of 3-4 names from this book. These names are 100% Irish.

No pronunciation for the names. I'm Irish but unfortunately I can't read gaelic. Poor move on the authors part.......what a waste......
