I would say I'm a fairly advanced artist. I love to draw and I've been doing so since I was 5 years old.I draw in all types of medium from paint to pastel to of course colored pencil and pencil/charcoal. Pencil being my favorite!Breaking down how to create textures has improved my work in so many ways!Giving me better tools as to what grade of pencils to use to create various textures. Lights N darks....etc.You will not be disappointed at all!!I refer to this book constantly.This book helped me to bring the subject matter to life with simple techniques.This was a simple drawing I did of a lion.I did a similar piece a few years back and the 2 are very different. This lion I currently created (the 1 that takes up the word page) it looks like he's staring at you or that he's so real you could almost feel the texture of his fur and mane. This helps to give your subject matter depth and life.If you are already a fairly advanced artist and are looking to fine tune your own skills... Get. This. Book!

I love this book! The textures are beautiful. I love that the author tells you which pencils to use at each step in the drawing. This is a great book for beginners. It shows a lot of details in a step-by-step way that is very easy to follow and understand. I would recommend this book. Fantastic instructions.
I love it. However, the pictures are so small, it's hard to see what technique was used. I will have to buy a magnifier. But other than that, lots of useful resources.
This is a very useful addition to any graphite artist (in fact any artist's) collection of reference books. The explanations are clear and easy to follow. I would have preferred to see either a graphite only or charcoal only version as there is much repetition having both in one book. Still I found the book (I have the Kindle version) an easy and good read full of useful information I will certainly apply.
