This was a terrific book which I enjoyed a lot. It's well written, concise and filled with good "car-guy" advice.I've always enjoyed reading about cars and have wide-ranging tastes, so this book filled the bill in many ways. It's in my "car-guy" room on the bookshelf with many other books, but it's a good one that I'll keep until my kids sell it at my estate sale some day (not to soon, I hope).Rob's a good writer and the photos are also quite excellent.
This is a well written guide to collector cars that "real people" can afford. You wont find any information on Bugattis in here, but you will find some interesting and fun facts about cars that you might have owned in the past or are thinking of buying. I bought 2 copies at Amazon and gave one to a friend -- he has read it from cover to cover as well. I know Rob Sass - he writes for SCM as well as Hagerty's magazine and the New York Times automobile section. His stories are full of humor as well as personal tales of the many cars he has owned, driven and restored. This would make a great gift for an aspiring gearhead or a dyed in the wool car guy.
This book has a lot of good information and is also entertaining.
If you're constantly dragging home project cars like me this is a great book to help you know what you're getting into before you drag said project home. Mostly covers import sports cars and hardly any domestic stuff though.
What a great book about old cars. It makes it less daunting to buy and use an old car. Now I just need to escape Manhattan. Does Mr. Sass have a book for that?
I had never even heard of this book, and then I saw it on the shelf at Barnes and Noble. I have been restoring old cars, starting with my Grandfathers '67 Dodge, and that led into Hemmings Classic Cars, Sports & Exotics and Muscle Machines, and then other cars as well. This book is a must have for those interested in foreign sports cars, but has a good section titled American Iron as well. The photos are great color & deatil, and the mix of advice and personal experience is like having a bunch of the Illustrated Buyers Guides (do they still make those? Old ones are on Amazon used, but I havent seen any new ones in a long time) rolled into one book. I will keep this book permanently. Cant recommend it highly enough.

To wit--he put together a collection of three very sporty examples (a Lancia, a Datsun 240Z, and a Volvo P1800) for less than $9000...all rust free, all in drivable condtion.This is a great handbook for anyone new to the hobby, but any gearhead will find it an enjoyable and enlightening read. But be forewarned... readers may find themselves with a new addiction to Craigslist.
