This was a rather hard book to read, written as the Colonial people spoke with tons of misspellings. It seemed like some parts were repeating and I had to go back and check the dates which showed things were repeated after several years. What the story shows was how the English settlers having lived under virtual self rule had learned to think and act on their while the French had to wait for direction from above. It also showed what the English colonies grew and advanced while the French colonies languished..
The information contained in this book was interesting, and a slightly different angle was taken in telling the story. But I could not get over the number of errors. Example: the word "tired" was used rather then "fired" several times in the same chapter. I have read over a 100 Kindle books and never have I come across so many mistakes. I am totally mystified. It was very distracting and spoiled a read,that I would have rated a 5 otherwise.
This is mostly about European history as how it relates to early American history and the struggle between France and England. Good read .
I found it to an interesting book that is well written and had good detail. It was written abut 100 years after the time period which was the subject and I enjoyed the perspective from the author's time period. The last chapter got a little "preachy" but that can overlooked.
This book is a must read for any serious student of American history. It and the accompanying two volumes explain the price of freedom that is often overlooked.
Lots details covering the taffy pull between England, France and Spain fighting for dominance in the new world. It's amazing how cruel the religious followers were to their fellow citizens. Hardships were insurmountable at times.
Good story that is well written but the number of misspelled words is unbelievable. Keeps one struggling to figure out what the misspelled word is supposed to be. Somebody didn't do their job while reviewing before publishing.
