I have read three books about the DR and by far Ross' book was the most in depth for preparing a foreigner to live there. He goes into how to drive and understand how Dominicans signal driving intentions, he gives helpful tips on how to assimulate and how to deal with the various attitudes about money. This book is for the person who is serious about living in the DR and needs to get a firm handle on how specifically to make that dream come true. Ross will do that for you. Ross is also very generous with his time if you have questions for him after reading his book.
Fantastic inside look at the country and its culture. I enjoyed reading the anecdotes and tips. I can't wait to go back to DR. My one minor issue with this book is that the author appears to be more financially secure than I am. As such, for me to move to DR, I have to take the author's tips and modify them for my less-affluent circumstances.

This is the best book I have read so far about moving to the DR, it really describes exactely what is goign to happen to you IF you are a gringo (or gringa). I just finished reading your book, what a great book man, I love it! I think if world war III would have broken out I still would not have stopped reading the book until I was finished. I really had to force myself to stop reading because I had to go to the office, or the bed or do something else beside reading. I live in Cabarete but have been to Santo Domingo several times, I love that place, I enjoy it every time I go there.....beside getting pulled over by lookalike "cops" demanding money for running red lights that were not even there.......just exactly like you describe in your book. To me it seemed you were writing about my life :-
Interesting background information on the DR even for those who aren't considering a move there. Written in a clear,humorous way, you'll find this book helpful even if you're going to the DR for just a week or so.

Without a doubt the most helpful book I have read about my pending migration to the D.R.!!! I loved the first person aspect of the author. Unlike all the other information I have gathered he actually moved there and these are his real life stories and experiences not theories and what other authors think might happen or how they perceive the way things would happen. I highly recommend this book to anybody considering moving to the Dominican Republic !!!!
Interesting personal account of Mr. Weber visiting and moving to the DR. It is interesting to read a north american's impressions of the country and society. There isn't much of this type of information out there if you are wondering what it is actually like to live in the DR. Confirms some of my impressions having been there four times. Moving there in a few months. Thanks Ross for sharing your story.
